For about a year now a group from the local community has been thinking about a Farmers Market in Pine Grove Mills. This year a steering group was formed with the vision to foster a producer-only farmers market located in Pine Grove Mills that will provide access to fresh and healthy foods, support growers and producers, and serve as a community gathering place.
The steering group, made up of 8 to 10 community members, is currently working on a business plan for a Farmers Market. The goal is to have a Farmers Market in operation in the Spring of 2018.
The first Pine Grove Mills Harvest Festival was held on Sept 16 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm at the St Paul Lutheran Church. Mother nature blessed the festival with great weather which helped generate a good attendance. There were 23 exhibit spaces used which included a variety of vendor and craft displays. Mandy’s cake walk was a big hit. The kids liked the pumpkin face painting and Merle’s antique corn shelling machine. The Ferguson Township Lions sold out of apple dumplings and the Pine Grove Presbyterian Church sold out of soup. The vendors had nice displays. Mark Johnson and the Pine Hall Blue Grass Jam group supported the event with good music. The drone racing demonstration was a hit. Donations of $544 were collected for the Lutheran Disaster Response fund. Thanks to all the volunteers, vendors, exhibitors, musicians and the Pine Grove Mills Community for making our first Pine Grove Mills Harvest Festival a success.
